The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane is located in London's Covent Garden, home to Theatreland and many of London's top theatres such as the Lyceum and the Cambridge. The bustling markets engulfed with tourists and street entertainers alike are a faint murmur from the theatre, and the surrounding areas of the Strand, Leicester Square and the Embankment on the River Thames are all within a short distance. Covent Garden is a picturesque cobbled square with great little cafes, boutiques and hotels. If you are attending a show at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and you wish to stay in the vicinity of the theatre, then a stay at a Covent Garden or Strand hotel is probably your best bet.
A 3 star hotel near to the theatre is the Strand Palace Hotel, a popular choice with tourists due to its affordability and great location on the Strand. The building was originally Art Deco but has become far more modern in recent years with guests pouring in and out at all times, and even having to queue for breakfasts in the mornings unless early! The busyness of the hotel may be off-putting if you are looking for a tranquil, secluded place to reside during your stay to London, but the hustle and bustle is only a testament to its popularity with its guests.
Rooms are modern and clean and bathrooms are spacious. The hotel has its own restaurant with an a la carte menu serving dishes from grills to stir fries, but if you are looking to save money on your trip, then a Tesco's Express is conveniently located around the corner, perfect for purchasing snacks and sandwiches.
If you are looking for a more relaxing hotel away from the noise of London's traffic, then a stay at the 4 star Kingsway Hall may be the choice for you. The hotel is centrally located in the Covent Garden area, near to the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and the surrounding cafes and bars. The price is affordable but with the indulgence of a 5 star, with an expansive and dramatic foyer decorated in warm colours and textured wallpaper. Although the hotel is exceptionally centrally located, a stone's throw away from the business district of Holborn, the tranquillity of Kingsway Hall may enable you to forget just where you are.
Rooms at Kingsway Hall are spacious and comfortable, classically decorated with dramatic and ambient colours. Free satellite TV is available, although the channel selection is rather limited, and the hotel does not have free Wi-Fi. A lively bar and a serene bar are added features to the hotel.
If proximity to the theatre as well as luxury is high on your agenda, then the One Aldwych Hotel may be the perfect choice. At only 200 metres away from the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and across the street from the cultural centre of Somerset House, the location is one rated highly amongst previous guests, as it is within walking distance to many other of London's Theatres and venues. Built in 1907, One Aldwych was remodelled in 2003 to a sleeker design with a lap swimming pool that plays underwater music, one of the hi-tech features of the hotel, and a recent steam room and sauna have been added.
Rooms are of a decent size for a hotel so centrally located, and they are all fully air-conditioned and soundproofed, with high definition television sets. The staff at One Aldwych are known to be particularly friendly, welcoming and helpful to a 5 star standard.
Covent Garden is full of great bars, restaurants, cafes and countless hotels, but these are three from three different star ratings and budgets to suit any traveller coming to London to see a show at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
